Henriette Boerendans (Delft, 1966)

The artist about her work: "Houses play a central role in my woodcuts. They are old houses that I have seen in Canada, America, Antwerp, but also farms from North Holland. The house represents people, home and stability. I couldn't work without figuration. Still, compositions and atmosphere are more important to my work and I spend most of the time printing the woodcuts in different color combinations and looking for the strongest composition. When I am satisfied I give the woodcut the date of that day as a title.

Boerendans studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She won the Kwak & Van Daalen & Ronday Graphics Prize 2003. Boer Dance took part in exhibitions in the Netherlands, but also in Finland and Estonia, but also in Canada and Japan. Her work is included in both foreign and domestic collections, including that of Princess Beatrix.
