Marcel Schellekens (Soerendonk, The Netherlands, 1954)

Marcel Schellekens specialized in etching technology and developed his own working method over the years. His works are painterly color etchings in which the composition is not determined by the lines, but by color squares printed on top of each other. He uses three different etching plates for the basic colors red, yellow and blue, but by pressing them transparently over each other a rich range of color shades is created. Schelleken's subjects are everyday and personal, he makes portraits of his children, but also of people on the street, he makes interiors and still lifes in his own studio, but also (city) landscapes, such as here in Marrakech and the Roman Trastevere. In all his work, light and warm colors create atmospheric scenes. In addition to his etchings, he has also made paintings in recent years.

Marcel Schellekens was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts in Utrecht, Department of Graphics. He lives and works in Bergen. Schellekens regularly exhibits in the Netherlands, but his work has also been shown in Vienna, New York, Vancouver and Tokyo.
