Han Lei (Kaifeng, China, 1967)

Han Lei works with an alternation of sharpness and blur. The photos of modern buildings in particular are often blurred to suggest some beauty. The eye corrects the ugliness of the modern buildings with the help of the stereotypical images of Chinese landscapes and architecture. He reinforces this suggestion by using the classic Chinese circle shape and retouching the photos with light pastel colors reminiscent of 19th century photography.

After graduating from the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, Han Lei started working as a freelance photographer in 1992. He exhibits his work both in China and internationally.
