Lee Jung Keun

Lee Jung Keun (Seoul, Korea, 1972)

When viewing the work of Lee Jung-keun you first see the colorful patterns. Only when you take a closer look at the work do you see that those patterns are made up of motifs derived from his daily life. What appear to be abstract patterns turn out to be concrete photographs of the artist's family and friends. Lee literally lets the viewer see through the patterns in his work. With this he refers to patterns in society and the relationship that the individual enters into.
He prints it on canvas and stretches it on a window, but also on silk and turns it into dresses and trousers. In computer simulations he even shows entire buildings with which the patterns are covered.

Lee Jung Keun studied Applied Arts at Kyungwon University. His work can be seen in solo and group exhibitions in Korea and in the Netherlands.
