Gao Xiang

Gao Xiang (Kunming, China, 1971)

Gao Xiang belongs to the youngest generation of Kunming painters. Kunming is located in the relatively quiet West of China, where many artists take refuge in order to work quietly. As a result, there is a vibrant art scene in Kunming. With the series 'Why has everything become so fascinating?' he shows illuminated shop windows, neon and shiny cars at night. While many people in China complain that everything has changed and become so ugly, Gao Xiang wants to show that the current city also has its beautiful sides.

Gao Xiang graduated from Yunnan Art Institute in Kunming in 1994. Since then his work has been shown at home and abroad. He lives and works in Kunming.
