James Geurts

James Geurts (Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, 1970)

Geurts shows in his photos a collage of images that he has collected over the years during his travels through the inland and his nomadic existence as a surfer along the coastline of Australia. He combines images of untouched nature, such as the desert or the ocean, with man-made things, such as billboards and menus, as well as roads and tankers. His work deals with the tension between man's love for untouched nature on the one hand, and its continuous destruction on the other.

Geurts studied Graphic Design at Swinburne University in Melbourne. His work consists of photography, video projections and installations. Geurts' work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
