Ko Aarts (Holly, 1961)
Ko Aarts' work shows images that arise from a combination of reality and fantasy. His realization that things are not open to unambiguous interpretation, that conflicting views and feelings can prevail, is a principle that allows his work to have a light-hearted character, despite the often oppressive subjects.
The artist strives to find a balance between rigor and irony in his work. To this end, he divides his attention between a kind of media realism, which may even assume banal forms, on the one hand, and the purely formal aspects of perception and painting on the other. An overview of the work shows recurring elements.
