Karl Maughan (Wellington, 1964)
Karl Maughan is a New Zealander painter best known for his realistic yet surreal depictions of blooming gardens and verdant parks. With a career now spanning more than three decades, Maughan's practice continues to captivate his audiences with his contemporary interpretations of an age-old subject. Within the dedication to his subject, Maughan has varied, painterly applications. Were earlier works were acutely realist, other series are hyper-real, their details simplified with exaggerated colours.
Maughan attended Elam School of Fine Arts in 1983, graduating in 1986. He currently lives and works in Wellington.
